This February, Global’s primetime line-up is going to come to new life. That’s when the network’s original series, Enrico Colantoni-starring medical drama Remedy, is set to open its doors.
As announced in a release sent out by Global Monday, Remedy debuts Monday, Feb. 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The network is touting this freshman series as a hospital-set take on the “upstairs/downstairs” drama of shows like Downton Abbey, with Colantoni (Flashpoint, Veronica Mars) playing Chief of Staff to the varying levels of residents and orderlies at Bethune Hospital.
“With its fresh take on the medical drama genre fueled by rich and compelling characters brought to life by our star-studded cast, our new Canadian production Remedy cements the network’s stellar reputation as a champion of original content,” Barbara Williams, Shaw Media senior vice-president of content, said of the show in the release.
In addition to Colantoni, who will also be seen in the Veronica Mars feature film this spring, the main Remedy cast includes Dillon Casey (Nikita), Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and Sarah Allen (Murdoch Mysteries). These three have plum parts to play, as their characters are not only the children of Colantoni’s Allen Conner, but also co-workers at Bethune (Casey’s Griffin is an orderly, Canning’s Melissa is a general surgeon, and Allen’s Sandy is an ICU nurse).
Rounding out the recurring cast is Matt Ward (TRON: Legacy), Genelle Williams (Warehouse 13), Patrick McKenna (The Red Green Show) and Martha Burns (Slings and Arrows). Season 1 guest stars include Joel Keller (Blue Murder), Ted Dykstra (Daniel Tiger’s Neighbourhood) and ballet star Sonia Rodriguez.
Remedy comes from the mind of Greg Spottiswood (King), and will not only offer Colantoni’s return to TV following Flashpoint, but also his directorial debut. In an attempt to “bring fans that much closer” to Spottiswood, Colantoni and the rest of the Remedy gang, Global will feature enhanced versions of each Season 1 episode online, using a Pop-Up Video-esque feature to offer up scene-specific trivia and behind-the-scenes scoop.
